Terms of Service

Welcome to Shortly ("we," "us," "our"), a link management and analytics platform operated at www.shortlylink.com. By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Definitions
- "Service" refers to the Shortly platform, including the website, API, dashboard, bio pages, and all related tools.
- "User," "you," "your" refers to any individual or entity that accesses or uses the Service.
- "Link" refers to any shortened URL, bio page link, or redirect created through the Service.
- "Content" refers to any data, URLs, text, images, or material submitted to the Service.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction to use the Service.
- By registering, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and complete.
- The Service is currently in beta with a limit of 500 registered users. Registration may be closed when this limit is reached.
3. Account Registration
- You must provide a valid name, email address, and password to create an account.
- You must verify your email address before accessing the Service.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials, including API keys.
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
- One account per person. Duplicate or automated account creation is prohibited.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Shorten, cloak, or distribute links to malware, phishing sites, viruses, or any malicious software.
- Distribute spam, unsolicited messages, or engage in any form of bulk messaging abuse.
- Host, redirect, or link to content that is illegal, fraudulent, defamatory, obscene, or infringes on the rights of others.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service, including rate limiting, bot detection, or fraud scoring.
- Use the Service to engage in click fraud, artificially inflate click counts, or manipulate analytics.
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Service beyond the provided API.
- Upload malicious or unauthorized JavaScript code through the custom pixel feature.
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party terms of service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts, links, teams, or data.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms without prior notice.
5. Link Creation and Content
- You are solely responsible for the content and destination of all Links you create.
- We do not monitor or endorse the content behind shortened links, but we reserve the right to disable or remove any Link that violates these Terms.
- Password-protected links are secured with industry-standard hashing. We do not store raw passwords.
- Links may include scheduling (start/expiration dates), geo-targeting, A/B testing, URL rotation, and deep linking configurations. You are responsible for ensuring these configurations comply with applicable laws.
- Expired links return an appropriate error response and are not accessible after expiration.
6. Analytics and Data Collection
By using the Service, you acknowledge that we collect the following data when a Link is clicked:
- IP address (used for geolocation and fraud detection)
- Device and browser information (browser name, version, OS, device type)
- Geographic location (country, region, city derived from IP)
- Referrer URL and domain
- UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign, content, term)
- Visitor fingerprint (SHA-256 hash of IP and user-agent for uniqueness tracking)
- Bot detection status and fraud score
- Timestamp of the click
This data is used to provide analytics, detect fraud, and improve the Service. For details on how we handle this data, see our Privacy Policy in the Legal Pages document.
7. Retargeting Pixels and Custom Code
- The Service allows you to embed third-party tracking pixels (Facebook, Google Analytics, TikTok) and custom JavaScript on redirect interstitial pages.
- You are solely responsible for compliance with the terms of service of any third-party pixel provider.
- Custom JavaScript code must not contain malicious code, malware, or code designed to harm end users.
- Pixel tracking is automatically disabled for detected bot traffic.
- We are not responsible for data collected by third-party pixels you configure.
8. Webhooks and Integrations
- You may configure webhooks to receive real-time notifications for events including clicks, conversions, bot detection, link expiration, and anomaly alerts.
- Webhook payloads are signed with HMAC-SHA256 using your webhook secret for verification.
- Webhooks that fail 10 consecutive times will be automatically deactivated.
- You are responsible for securing your webhook endpoints and secrets.
- The Public API (v1) is available via API key authentication for programmatic access to link management and analytics.
9. Teams and Collaboration
- You may create teams and invite members by email.
- Team roles include Admin, Editor, and Viewer, each with different permissions.
- Team owners are responsible for managing team membership and access.
- Invitation tokens are single-use and should not be shared publicly.
10. Bio Pages
- The Service provides a link-in-bio feature accessible at public URLs (e.g.,
shortlylink.com/@username). - Bio page usernames must be unique and may not impersonate other individuals or brands.
- Bio page view counts and link click counts are tracked automatically.
- You may unpublish your bio page at any time.
11. Conversions and Postbacks
- The Service supports conversion tracking via pixel and server-to-server postback endpoints.
- A click ID (
cid) is appended to destination URLs for conversion attribution. - You are responsible for ensuring your use of conversion tracking complies with applicable advertising and privacy regulations.
- Duplicate conversions for the same click ID are automatically rejected.
12. Custom Domains
- You may register custom domains for use with the Service.
- Domain ownership must be verified via DNS TXT record.
- You are responsible for maintaining DNS configuration and domain registration.
- We reserve the right to remove unverified or abusive custom domains.
13. Rate Limiting and Fair Use
- The redirect endpoint is rate-limited to 15 requests per 10 seconds per IP to prevent abuse.
- CSV data exports are limited to 10,000 records per export.
- Excessive or abusive use of the API may result in temporary or permanent rate limiting.
- We reserve the right to adjust rate limits as needed to maintain service quality.
14. Intellectual Property
- The Shortly name, logo, design, and codebase are our intellectual property.
- You retain ownership of the content and URLs you submit to the Service.
- By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process and redirect your content as necessary to operate the Service.
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
- We do not guarantee 100% uptime or availability.
- We do not guarantee the accuracy of geolocation, bot detection, or fraud scoring.
- The Service is in beta and may contain bugs or undergo significant changes.
16. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Loss of revenue, data, or business opportunities.
- Damages resulting from unauthorized access to your account.
- Damages arising from third-party links, pixels, or webhook integrations you configure.
- Service interruptions, downtime, or data loss.
17. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Shortly, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service.
- Content or links you create, share, or distribute through the Service.
- Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law.
- Third-party claims related to your use of custom pixels, webhooks, or API integrations.
18. Account Termination
- You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.
- We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms.
- Upon termination, your links, analytics data, bio pages, team memberships, and associated data may be permanently deleted.
- Termination does not relieve you of obligations incurred prior to termination.
19. Modifications to Terms
- We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time.
- Changes will be effective upon posting to the Service.
- Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
- We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes via email or in-app notice.
20. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of India.
